us and our ethos
We are a family run, small business in Glastonbury, Somerset. With the beauty of the Tor, Mendip Hills and Somerset Levels, inspiration is all around us. We create simple yet powerful skincare products with the finest, safest ingredients. Developing ideas, researching, formulating and then making is our happy place. We take great pride in our creations and the benefits they produce.
Our soaps are homemade in small batches with each bar being unique in pattern. We strive to use the best quality ingredients and hunt out new, natural and beneficial recipes. We make great combinations that are safe, healthy and helpful for your skin.
The traditional method of cold process soap making is used, and it's so much fun! Saponification is a process that involves the conversion of oils by the action of heat in the presence of aqueous alkali (lye and water) - literally meaning 'turning into soap' from the Latin sapo or 'soap'. It generally takes 24 to 48 hours for all lye to completely neutralise and once created, the soaps take 4 - 6 weeks to cure.
Our natural skincare products contain no palm oil, additives, preservatives, parabens, emulsifiers, detergents or animal fats. We want you to know exactly what's included in each bar - skin is the body's largest organ and it absorbs everything we put on it.
At ħanini skincare we use clays and superfoods for even more benefits and goodness. Our ingredients page explains the specific blessings of each, and can be combined in ways that help promote and boost healthy skin. Some of our soaps are unscented - so even more gentle for sensitive skin.
Sourcing ingredients and materials as ethically and efficiently as possible is really important to us. By supporting other organic and eco kind businesses, we want to help preserve the environment and reduce our footprint on the planet - in fact our main superfood supplier is local to us (just around the corner!). Our oils, butters and essential oils are sourced from a company which supports community projects in Ghana through their Fairtrade Cooperative - working equally and collaboratively is a priority. Wherever we can, we use organic certified ingredients from suppliers with certification from The Soil Association.
We are proud to use 100% recyclable and reusable packaging. No plastic is used, we reuse as much as possible in the workshop and source recycled cardboard boxes, paper, card and tissue paper. Our biodegradable peanuts are made from a plant-based, non-static, non-toxic, non-Styrofoam material that can be dissolved in warm water or added to your compost / food waste.
When you buy organic skincare, you support cruelty free products and the move towards abolishing animal testing in the industry. There are over 7,000 cosmetic ingredients that are already proven to be safe - there is no need or excuse to be testing products on animals. It is extremely cruel and completely unnecessary. Switching to cruelty-free cosmetics also opens your eyes to products that are healthier for you as well as saving our animals - products that aren't full of harsh or toxic chemicals that do nothing good for your body.
We would love to hear from you, please get in touch with any questions / suggestions. Thanks so much for visiting us, we look forward to helping you where we can.
